Strong Families

Scott believes that the family is core unit of society. If families are doing well, Colorado as a whole will succeed too.

Senator Renfroe has defended the family values of traditional marriage, parental choice in education, and parental control in childcare. He has also fought to preserve the freedom of religion and conscience in every aspect of public and private life.

In his freshman year in the Senate, Scott sponsored a bill to provide more services to the developmentally disabled in Colorado -- without increasing taxes. This bill was signed into law in June 2008.

I Need Your Help: Ban the Sale of Pornography to Minors

E-mail Print

April 31, 2009

You probably haven’t heard that Colorado is 1 of 7 states where it is still legal to sell pornography to minors. Not only is this glaring omission from our law immoral, I have heard testimony from law enforcement that sexual predators use pornography to lure minors. This loophole puts our kids at risk.

My Republican colleagues in the Senate have been trying to outlaw this practice for years. It looks like our chance to ban this deplorable practice has finally come, and I need your help.

The Senate Republicans were able to amend House Bill 1162, Crimes Against a Child, to include a ban on selling pornography to minors. The Democrats do not want this amendment to pass, and will strip it from the bill if they get another opportunity to amend it in a conference committee.

If the House votes to concur with the Senate amendments, the bill will pass in its current form and selling pornography to minors will be outlawed as soon as the Governor signs the bill. But if the House votes not to concur with the Senate amendments, a conference committee will be called where the bill can quietly be amended back to its original, weaker form.

It is crucial that the House votes to concur with Senate amendments. Please write the Representatives and urge them to concur with Senate amendments on House Bill 1163, Crimes Against a Child, especially the Harvey amendment that outlaws the sale of pornography to minors.

Harvey’s amendment is structured so that it will not cost the state money. The Democrats have no excuse for voting against this amendment: please let them know how important this is to you right away. They could vote on HB 1163 as early as this afternoon.

Thanks for your help,

Scott W. Renfroe

GOP touts plan to increase access, affordability in health care

E-mail Print

Colorado Senate News
3 December 2007

With no clear direction yet from the "208 commission" studying health care, Republican lawmakers announced their own ground game for health-care reform today at a news conference miles from the Capitol--at a walk-in, retail health clinic. The GOP lawmakers said their agenda highlights the need to give health care recipients and providers greater control over decisions about treatment rather than ceding authority to a growing web of government programs.

One of the proposals unveiled today is a bill that would provide more services to Colorado's developmentally disabled.  The bill sponsored by Sen. Scott Renfroe, R-Eaton, and Rep. Bob Gardner, R-Colorado Springs, arose out of the interim committee on Long-Term Care Health Care Services and Support to Persons with Developmental Disabilities.  It would give greater access to the disabled by increasing funding for services.

"Funding for developmental disabilities is more important than a number of the other items we pay for in our budget," Renfroe said.  "The Republicans in the interim committee realized it just made more sense to find money in the budget for this service than to go to voters for another tax increase."

Renfroe was referring to a failed measure before the same interim committee by Rep. Mike Garcia, D-Aurora, to increase funding for the developmentally disabled by raising taxes.

Republicans say the common theme throughout their entire action plan for 2008 is providing innovative solutions to the issues that matter most to the citizens of Colorado -- without relying on more taxes and mandates to solve the problem.
